Who we are

About the shop

A one-person custom wood shop at the end of the road in Sooke, on the wild south edge of Vancouver Island.

Spline & Gable is James Berry. After years working with wood, he set up his own shop in Sooke to build the kind of cabinetry and furniture he’d want in his own home — carefully drawn, solidly built, and finished by hand.

Sooke sits where the pavement runs out and the coast turns raw — old-growth forest, driftwood beaches, and a lot of weather off the Strait of Juan de Fuca. It’s a good place to make things that are meant to hold up. From the shop here, James serves homeowners and builders across Greater Victoria and the south Island.

Every project is personal. You talk to the maker, not a salesroom, and the person who measures your kitchen is the one who builds and installs it.
